Download ExeBlock version 1.32 - see readme.txt!

What is ExeBlock?
ExeBlock allows you to block the execution of executables (com, exe, pif, scr, etc.) that the system or users attempt to start. Only the execution of a file is blocked; you still can create, rename, copy and delete these files. Filters can be used to specify from which locations files should be blocked. And as from version 1.30, ExeBlock will automaticly block or log files to where the user has write access! Users that are able to disable ExeBlock (System/Admins) are allowed to execute files to where they have write access, but the filters apply to them too. Each file that should be started, is checked for write access. If the user has read only access, the file is checked against the Deny/Grant filters you created. Note that ExeBlock filters do not check files by name only (such as the standard NT AppSec does) but by full path. You specify the locations that should be blocked as individual string-values in the registry. i.e. By blocking the default temp folder, you will deny the execution of attachments users receive per e-mail. By blocking all paths where users have permission to create or change files (including remote shares like "\\*" ), you can eliminate the possibility for users to execute unknown applications. When a file is blocked, the user will receive a default NT popup message which reads that the access to the file "Access to file.ext is denied." and a entry will be written to the eventlog stating user-, filter- and filename. ** WARNING ** ------------- The ExeBlock filters works system wide and user independent. This means you should be very careful not to block system files Windows needs. When you accidentally block too much, you might be unable to boot or logon! As of version 1.10, ExeBlock only blocks files after any interactive users were present on the system. This means the system should allways be able to start. ExeBlock is tested succesfully on: - Windows NT Server 4.0 SP6 - Windows NT Terminal Server 4.0 SP6 - Windows 2000 Professional SP1 - Windows XP - Windows Server 2003 (Standard edition)
